Warsaw, Indiana, is located in northern Indiana and is the county seat of Kosciusko County. Situated amid more than 100 lakes, Warsaw covers just less than 13 square miles of land. It’s known as the “Orthopedic Capital of the World” because it’s where the DePuy Manufacturing Company, the first maker of orthopedic devices, was founded. Today, Warsaw is home to three leading makers of orthopedic devices: DePuy, Zimmer, and Biomet. The city is a thriving community with much to offer both residents and visitors.

Warsaw History

The first settlement on the land that would become Warsaw was called Red Brush. Next, the area was known as Kosciusko Township; later, Kosciusko would become the name of the county, and the town, renamed Warsaw, would be its county seat. The community of Warsaw was planned out in 1836, but it didn’t officially become a town until 1854, when the Pennsylvania Railroad arrived. The town had 752 residents when it was first incorporated. Revra DePuy founded his orthopedic manufacturing company here in 1895.
