If you’ve found that you don’t smile much anymore because you have chipped, stained, discolored or misaligned teeth, then porcelain veneers may be the solution to your problem. Veneers can cover minor aesthetic flaws in teeth that are otherwise healthy, so if you want brighter, whiter, more evenly spaced teeth that are properly aligned, then call South Bend office and schedule a consultation.

What’s the Purpose of Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are layers of extremely thin dental porcelain that look and function like your natural teeth. They’re applied directly to the front surface of the teeth and correct minor aesthetic issues, such as:

  • Size and shape: One or more chipped teeth can make you feel boorish and unrefined, especially if your teeth are dull or discolored or stained. Your self-confidence can suffer as a result, which is particularly important for major events such as a job interview or a wedding. If your chipped and unattractive teeth are adversely affecting your self-confidence, then call us for an evaluation.
  • Tooth Color: Like chipped or misaligned teeth, stained or discolored teeth can adversely impact your self-confidence. Whether the discoloration or stains are due to lifestyle habits such as smoking, dietary habits such as drinking coffee or tea, or due to the use of some prescription medications, veneers can correct these issues in one office visit. You can match your natural shade or lighten it, the choice is yours.
  • Alignment and spacing: If you have small gaps in your teeth or other minor misalignments, then veneers can fix those imperfections without the need for braces.

If you’re interested in getting porcelain veneers in our office, then call us to schedule a consultation. Your dentist will evaluate your teeth and your objectives and recommend the best option for you. If veneers aren’t the best fit, we’ll recommend other options that will provide you with the beautiful smile that you want.

If your dentist determines that porcelain teeth are a good match for you, then we’ll take an impression of your teeth so that your veneers will have the best fit. Sometimes, depending on the brand you choose and your unique physiology, we may need to remove up to 1mm of your tooth enamel, but it will be a painless procedure as will the installation of your veneers. When your veneers have been affixed in place, they won’t move around and you don’t need to worry about staining them. They’ll look and function like your natural teeth, and only you and your dentist will know that you’re wearing veneers.

When discussing pricing, your porcelain veneers cost will be specific to you and will be influenced by the brand of veneers you select, the number of teeth involved, any additional dental work that you need, and any insurance benefits you have. During your evaluation, we’ll provide you with an estimate of your porcelain veneers cost so that you’ll know what to expect.

Are Veneers and Crowns the Same Thing?

Porcelain crowns and veneers share some characteristics, but they are entirely different dental procedures. Veneers are used for aesthetic purposes only, they don’t provide any structural stability and they require removal of no more than 1mm of your tooth enamel, sometimes none during the porcelain veneers procedure. They’re applied to the front of the teeth only and are very thin. Crowns, however, cover the entire tooth and are often referred to as caps because they cap the entire tooth. A minimum of 2mm of tooth enamel may be removed when a crown is installed, and it provides significant structural support to the tooth. Crowns are often used for rear teeth such as molars that need to be strengthened for chewing or bite force.

How Frequently Do Veneers Need to Be Replaced?

If you properly maintain your veneers through a regimen of good oral hygiene and using your teeth only for their intended purpose, then your veneers should last for decades or a lifetime. Teeth weren’t designed to open bottles or bags or other items, so don’t use them for that.

What Type of Product Is Lumineers®?

Lumineers® is a very popular brand of very thin veneers. They’re very translucent but they’re also very durable and regularly last for decades. Their translucence makes them look very natural, which accounts for part of their popularity.

Do Veneers Need Any Special Maintenance?

Veneers porcelain requires only the maintenance that your natural teeth require. They need regular brushing and flossing, annual dental checkups, and normal preventive measures, such as a mouthguard if you grind your teeth and taking care when you bite into hard surfaces such as candy apples or ice.
