Have you lost several teeth, making eating difficult? Do your dentures slip frequently and keep you from enjoying the foods you love? If so, secure-fitting implant-supported dentures in Mishawaka may be a good option for you.

What is an Implant-Supported Denture?

Implant-supported dentures attach to dental implants that are inserted into your jaw. Some of these dentures are fixed, staying in your mouth all the time, while others are removable. There are two types of implant-retained dentures. With ball-retained types, dentures snap onto ball-shaped implant posts. With bar-retained dentures, dentures hook onto a metal bar that is attached to your dental posts.

Dentures can be anchored with two to six implant posts. If possible, your dentist will place the implant posts where you have the strongest jaw bone, which is often in the front of your mouth.

How Do Implant-Supported Dentures Work and What is the Process for Implanting Them?

In some cases, these implant-supported dentures can be installed in one or two visits. For most people several visits over a period of five to seven months are required. Your consultation with our dentists will determine which path is best for you.

To begin, your dentist drills a small hole in your jaw beneath your gum and inserts a metal implant post. It takes a few months for implants to fully bond to your bone, at which time a small incision is made to uncover the implant and a healing cap is placed over the implant so gums heal in the correct place. A week or two later, your dentures can be attached to the posts.

What Are the Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures?

Many patients appreciate the comfort and security provided by implant-supported dentures. They stay in place well, allowing patients to eat normally and healthfully. These dentures put most of the force of chewing onto your jaw, which helps slow bone loss. Dentures in general also help you to avoid the sunken look that accompanies tooth loss.

What Do Implant-Supported Dentures Cost?

Affordable quality implant-supported dentures are widely available, but they can cost a bit more than conventional dentures. The overall cost of denture implants varies widely, depending on the type of implant-retained denture you choose and the overall treatment plan. We strive to make affordable quality implant-supported dentures available to all, so call our office to schedule a consultation.

Why Choose Implant-Supported Dentures?

While individual dental implants are good for replacing one or two missing teeth, implant-supported dentures are often more efficient and economical for replacing multiple teeth. When compared to conventional dentures, dental implant dentures are often considered more comfortable and secure, since they slip less, and they provide more eating stability. With dental implant dentures, there’s usually also no need for adhesives. Our dentists would be happy to discuss your options for dealing with tooth loss. What Are the Care Instructions for Implant-Supported Dentures?

Removable dentures are taken out each night for cleaning, and fixed dentures are cleaned with daily brushings. Regular visits to our office can help ensure that your dentures fit well over time.
